Dons 'Boots' |
Check out the cover
of just about any magazine, and you'll see Jessica
Simpson. Go to just about any movie theater, and
you'll see her debut movie, "The Dukes of Hazzard."
Now, on Wednesday morning, you can catch her
performance in The Early Show's Summer Concert
series.
Dressed in a sexy "Daisy Duke" outfit, she sang
"These Boots Are Made For Walking." The updated
version of Nancy Sinatra's 1960s hit is from the
soundtrack for "The Dukes of Hazzard."
She also performed "Son Of A Preacher Man," offering
a preview of her upcoming album and "With You," from
her last album, "In This Skin."
Her new album will be released in November, and
Simpson tells The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith
it has a southern vibe to it.
"It was nice to kind of do something that Patsy
Cline would do or Willy Nelson," Simson says,
"Teaming up with him was a dream come true." The
ountry crooner also stars in the film as Uncle
Jesse, and is on the video for "These Boots Are Made
For Walking."
Simpson says she also drew inspiration from Shania
Twain's music to do her album. Expect rhythms
designed to get you to dance. But that is not all,
she says, "I did some classic ballads and actually
some old school R&B fun stuff. It's all over the
place."
The pop star got a lot of cheers from The Early Show
audience for her performance on the movie's
soundtrack video and her Daisy Duke figure.
"I worked out hard for that video," she says, "You
have to. You're trying to be the next Catherine
Bach, and you'll be on the posters, hopefully of
some walls, and you have to make those shorts look
good and make those bikinis look good. I had to work
very hard."
Her husband, Nick Lachey, and their dog, Daisy, were
with her. For those who are wondering, she says,
"We're still in love. Still married."
The Dallas, Texas, native, who turned 25 on July 10,
made her mark as a contemporary Christian musician,
sharing the stage with such gospel performers as
Kirk Franklin and CeCe Winans.
In 1999, she made her debut album, "Sweet Kisses,"
for Columbia Records. And after going on tour, she
released her crossover hit, "Irresistible," in 2001.
Last year, she marked her debut as a songwriter with
"In This Skin." For her video "With You," she
received two MTV VMA Nominations, for Best Female
Video and Best Pop Video.
The successful singer also became a reality TV star.
Her hit MTV show "Newlyweds" had a three-year run.
She also had a recurring role on "That 70's Show."
And this past weekend, she was No. 1 at the box
office as Daisy Duke in the film remake of the
classic '80s TV series, "The Dukes of Hazard."
Simpson has been married to Lachey (of 98 Degrees
fame) for three years. She started dating Lachey at
age 18 and married him at age 22.
